Oceanside cop overtime puts city on the line
Agreed. I will point out that the residents of Oceanside voted for every one of the "pit of vipers". They deserve the government they vote for. It is the folks in the "snake pit" that chose the City Managers and confirm the Police Chief.— August 28, 2019 7:30 a.m.
Oceanside cop overtime puts city on the line
Ok, I get it. Ken Leighton tends to be anti-labor when he reports on public employees. Maybe I did over analyze however no one has ever accused me of that.— August 28, 2019 7:27 a.m.
North Park storefronts take on Faulconer and Ward
Only time will tell if the Cities "new and improved" bike lanes and limited parking will help or hurt the businesses. My guess is that the time will come when the cyclists will be biking past closed storefronts with scores of homeless along the sidewalks. The one thing that you can be assured of is that Faulconer and Ward can screw up an empty room.— August 27, 2019 5:36 p.m.
Kaiser to face largest strike anywhere in 20 years
I have been with Kaiser for over 30 years and have received excellent care. I have compared the service (and price) with other providers and found the other more expensive and far more complicated to deal with. No provider is perfect and none have all the best employees. Kaiser employees, like all employees, would like to make more and/or have improved benefits. They have the benefit of having representation. Hopefully negotiations continue and conclude successfully. Employees who do not have representation just have to take it or leave it.— August 27, 2019 5:32 p.m.
Oceanside cop overtime puts city on the line
So what is the point of this article? Is it that overtime should not be paid? Or that people who work well past their normal shift should not earn additional money? Or that the City should not pay overtime? No matter how well you manage a police department they can not predict or control what happens. Police respond to calls for service. What does Ken Leighton think should be done? Maybe police overtime should be limited and when they run out of hours not show up to calls? Same with water utility workers. No overtime means that they will get around to the problem as soon as they can get someone there who is not on overtime. It seems that if someone working by the hour gets overtime it amount to some kind of crime. Cops, firemen/women, utility workers, etc. sell their time and skill by the hour and if you don't want them to respond then send them home at the end of eight hours and deal with the problem yourself.— August 27, 2019 5:26 p.m.
Vista's Paseo Santa Fe starts out as war zone
Roundabouts work only in a few applications. Most of the time they cause more problems than they resolve. A while back La Mesa removed all of their roundabouts.— August 25, 2019 3:52 p.m.
L.A. Times writers plead with readers
He is typical of the "rich man" owners. They have contracts for everything but shy away from having a contract with their employees. Everyone agrees to a contractual in everything they do be it rental agreement, mortgage, car purchase, credit card purchases, etc. Everything it seems except having a contract with ones employer. The most important thing you have is your job why not have a contractual agreement?— August 25, 2019 3:49 p.m.
Appellate court turns back Hosking's fake cattle ranch
The last thing we need is more back country development. The fire danger is too great and the resources to fight the fires is too small.— August 21, 2019 6:57 a.m.
O.C. billionaire Samueli beats out Philip Anschutz for San Diego Sports Arena
In this kind of deal you just know that the taxpayers will get screwed.— August 21, 2019 6:54 a.m.
Someone else's trash in Escondido is not your treasure
There will always be people who will dump trash rather than take it to the dump. One problem is that the dumping fees are high which tends to encourage people to save some money and dump their trash elsewhere.— August 19, 2019 6:06 p.m.
