Masuo’s Sushi Restaurant

It looks tiny, but this Solana Beach sushi institution can hold a lot of people between the dining room and two patios. Street parking out front can be a struggle, but there’s a big old lot out back.
Chef Masuo Sato’s restaurant style is carefree (as opposed to the rigorous discipline of a Tadokoro or Shino) but expressive and reasonably priced. Don’t skip out on the wahoo (ono), which can be hard to find elsewhere. Anyone who likes specialty rolls will be spoiled for choice here, though major sushi geeks might find themselves outnumbered by the crunchy roll crowd.
Make reservations during the summer, as Solana Beach can go from a quiet beach community to mob scene in an instant.
