Da Kine's Plate Lunches (Permanently Closed)
First founded in 1997 in Pacific Beach and today highly respected for its authentic Hawaiian cuisine, Da Kine’s Plate Lunches prides itself on being a come-as-you-are eatery akin to island culture. They still follow original recipes for popular plates like Teriyaki Chicken, Kalua Pig, Chicken Katsu and ribs served Korean Style or Sweet and Sour, plus sides like local style Macaroni Salad and Polynesian style mashed taro. Although the Hawaiian-style kalua pig here isn’t cooked in a hole in the ground, it tastes like the real thing and comes with an islander plateload of cabbage, rice, mac salad, and kimchi. Inexpensive.
In 2008 Da Kine’s closed its brick and mortar concept to focus on catering for events, including Super Bowl XXXVII in San Diego. They returned to serving the public at a new Linda Vista locale in Autumn 2019.
