Border Psycho Cantina
Border Psycho Brewery is a taproom and art gallery in downtown Tijuana founded in 2010 by brothers Roberto and Javier Albarran. Their second locale opened on Av. Revolución in late 2017, occupying a spacious building that used to be La Ballena, the longest bar in the world when it was opened (circa 1945). The menu, besides offering burgers and fries, has two kinds of tacos and other Mexican appetizers like sopes, nachos, flautas, and huaraches. My favorite here is the shrimp huarache al pastor, which is very similar to a taco. Huarache, meaning sandal in the pre-Columbian language Purépecha, is a flattened, yet thick corn masa in the shape of a sandal, with cheese and grilled shrimp imitating the Mexican pork al pastor flavors, plus pieces of pineapple, cilantro, and red onion.
