Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum
4203 Anderson Avenue, San Diego, CA 92145
Museum dedicated to Marines who provided air support, from propeller-driven fighters and bombers of the 1940s to jets and helicopters currently in use. Static displays of 27 vintage aircraft are included, along with equipment, insignia, paintings and photographs, scale models, and a research library. Newly added: an exhibit on the Navajo Code Talkers.
The museum is located in building T, 4203, at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. The sentry-free museum entrance is on Miramar Rd., 3.9 miles east of I-805 and 1.3 miles west of I-15. (Look for the Marine Corps and American flags at the entrance.) The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 am to 3:30 pm. (Closed holidays.) Free admission and parking.
