I’ve fallen for the Coronado, La Jolla, Del Mar areas ever since [my daughter] moved out here 12 years ago. It’s the weather, primarily, and the ambience. You can walk pretty much wherever you want to go. It’s invigorating.

I fell in love with the first condominium that we ever moved into, in Carlsbad. It was the first place that we ever actually stayed; our first residence was our condominium. I was, like, three years old when we moved in. When we moved out I was crying, “No, I don’t want to leave!” The image of that whole entire house is still in my mind. I drive by there every time I go to Rubio’s on Paseo del Norte.

When I was 17 I went to the Netherlands with my mom to visit my great-aunt. I love Holland. Everything from Amsterdam as a city to the country is just incredible. It’s so different from here. If I had the money, I’d probably go live there for part of the year, at least. I definitely want to go back and visit again.

I fell in love with a place on the eastern side of the High Sierra, a place called Inyo County. It’s just past Tuolumne Meadows, near Lee Vining, on the eastern side of Yosemite. Inyo is an Indian word that means “the dwelling place of the Great Spirit.” I believe that to be true. I feel it whenever I go there, which isn’t often enough. It keeps calling me back.

Oh, yes! I was in Madrid last year for a year. I absolutely fell in love with a place. I was doing a study-abroad program, but I did more playing than studying, to be honest with you. Madrid is just a really easy place to fall in love with. It’s beautiful; it’s enchanting; it’s absolutely amazing. I don’t have any plans to go back yet, but I know I will be back. It’s just one of those places that once you go there, you’ll be back throughout your life.

Yes. Starbucks! I just love coffee, I love the atmosphere. I go every day to different ones. I always get an iced venti latte.
