I’m best at reading and understanding people. A lot of that has to do with their body language and certain small things they do. I’m a people person, and I think I understand people more than they might understand themselves. I can tell if someone is saying something just to please me. Sometimes someone may say no, and you can tell they aren’t so sure. Obviously, that’s not 100 percent. But I think 99 percent of the average person…I could tell if they’re lying.

Playing drums. Right now I’m teaching the drum line at Point Loma High School. I’ve been playing since I was ten years old. My parents were very encouraging. I’m guessing most folks would tell their kids to be quieter. They would tell me to play louder.

After football? I’d say ice-skating. I’ve been doing that for six years. I can’t do anything crazy like jumping and twirling in the air. After that, it would be bowling. I’ve never gotten a 300 game, but I’ve come close.

I’ve got to say being sarcastic. My wife gets on me all the time about that. It’s sometimes hard to be politically correct. I’d like to say that I’m best at something that’s a lot more useful or something that would make my wife happier than my sarcastic comments. And she’s always telling me that I’m sarcastic at inappropriate times.

I would say it’s communicating. I’m a great communicator. I think it started when I was at the post office. I’m a retired supervisor. And when I started driving a limo, I learned when to become invisible and when to talk. You learn the hard way. If someone is on their cell phone or working, you give them space. If someone is in from Boston and they’re looking out the window and commenting on buildings, I like to tell them about the various things they’re seeing.

Ticking off my wife! I’m great at that. Seriously, though, the thing I’m best at is probably working on cars. My dad had a used-car lot, and from the time I was nine, I was a mechanic. I have a few classic cars: a ’54 Ford pickup, a ’57 Ford wagon, and a ’57 Thunderbird. The pickup I use mostly in my avocado grove. And the T-bird I didn’t restore all myself.
