Donald A. Luscomb died on Dec. 29 after a several-month battle against cancer, diabetes and heart disease. He was 71. A lifelong resident of San Diego County, Don grew up in Lemon Grove and spent most of his adult life in Spring Valley. A year after his 1964 graduation from Mount Miguel High School, where Don excelled in football, he joined the United States Marines Corps and served in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. After rejoining civilian life in 1967, Don embarked upon a 30-year career in construction and property management. Don was an avid fan of motorsports and fishing. His passion for fast vehicles ranged from Indy cars and NASCAR to dune buggies and off-road races in Baja California, where he served on the pit crews for a cadre of competitive drivers. And when he wasn't surfside or adrift on the Pacific, you could find Don (or not) trolling the rivers of Oregon for salmon. Don was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Norma Luscomb. He is survived by his sister Carol Williams, brothers Neal and Brian Luscomb, nieces Natalie Banks, Kate Mills, Emily McIntosh and Lillian Luscomb, and two great-nephews, Landon Banks and Grayson Mills. Also surviving Don are his beloved cousins David and Sarah Wall, to whom he proudly served as an uncle. Don will be deeply missed by his family and the countless friends he met during a lifetime of adventure.
