March 25, 1931 - February 3, 2017
The matriarch of our family and a devout Catholic, Marietta was surrounded by her loving family when Jesus wrapped his arms around her and took her home on February 3, 2017. Marietta was born to Anna and Frederick Sauer on March 25, 1931 in Burlington, Iowa alongside her brother William and sister Rosemary. While attending San Diego High School, she met her high school sweetheart Julius and they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage together, residing in Point Loma. Marietta was the center of our large family whose love and laughter was always felt. Kind and nonjudgmental, she will always be remembered for her gentle wisdom and sound advice to us all. Some of her favorite family activities included traveling, cooking, attending her grandchildren's school events, and playing cards with her great-grandchildren. When she was not taking care of her ever-growing family, Marietta volunteered as a Pink Lady at Scripps Mercy Hospital, spent quality time with her friends at needlepoint class, and celebrated birthday lunches with her girlfriends. Marietta is survived by her devoted husband Julius Zolezzi, her children John (Dawn) Zolezzi, Annette (Hector) Romero, Julie (Frank) Sanfilippo, Jeannine (John) Francisco, Thomas (Lisa) Zolezzi, 15 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
