J.D. Dudek, long time resident of Coronado, age 59, passed away on Dec. 7, 2016 after a long courageous battle with leukemia. His beautiful life will forever be cherished by his loving wife Anne Kebisek Dudek. He is furthered survived by his mother Margaret Hardy, older brother David (Sidney), younger sister Sharon (Jon) Van de grift, nieces and nephews Jacob, Jenna, Sean, Shelby and Tyler. He is also survived by numerous relatives including cousins, sister-in-laws and other extended family members in Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his father, Chet Dudek. He will also be remembered by his many friends in California, Hawaii, Wisconsin and around the world. J.D. was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wi. J.D.’s beloved father passed away at age 37 when J.D. was only 10 years old and left him with the special message to “Do the things I could never do in my life” and “Never, never quit” which he never forgot. J.D. was inspired by his father’s words and applied this to all areas of his life by living boldly. His family moved to Southern California when he was in high school. At the University of San Diego (USD) J.D. earned both his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (79) and Master of Education (85). Always an athlete, he was an A.C.E. personal trainer and certified in Fitness Instruction and Health Management from the University of California, San Diego (94). In addition to playing basketball in high school, he was a wide receiver on the USD football team, leading the team in catches and touchdown receptions. He was a world class elite athlete that completed over 137 triathlons in the United States and around the world including Europe, Australia, and Thailand. He used the same determination he applied to sports to battle leukemia. And to help others with their battle, J.D. served as an ambassador for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In addition, he successfully raised $350,000 to build and equip a gym on the City of Hope - Helford Hospital bone-marrow ward so that other leukemia patients could fight the disease head on. To carry on his father’s inspirational message to others, the gym was named “The J.D. Dudek Never, Never Quit Gym.” As a real estate broker for more than 30 years, J.D. held licenses in both California and Hawaii. In 1985 he founded his company - Western Mission Mortgage and Properties. J.D. was a dedicated champion and mentor to children and young adults throughout his life. He was a member of the Coronado Yacht Club. He loved the water, felt renewed by swimming and was a loyal member of the Coronado Masters Association. He also was a member of the informal Sons and Daughters of Anarchy (Agony) Cyclist Club. In a life that ended way too soon, J.D. never quit, lived out loud and touched many. J.D.’s enthusiasm for life will be missed.
