Thursday | 6

Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner

Come and hear a presentation by Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, an Austrian mountaineer who has climbed all 14 of the 8,000+ meter peaks, from Annapurna to Everest — only the second woman to do so. In addition, she was the first woman climber to climb K2,  in the remote Karakoram Range, without supplemental oxygen or porters. She'll share highlights from her career and talk about what it was like to be the first.

When: Thursday, March 6, 7:30 pm

Where: Baker-Baum Concert Hall, 7600 Fay Avenue, La Jolla. theconrad.org

Friday | 7

The Devil Makes Three

Enjoy a performance by  Devil Makes Three, an Americana band from Santa Cruz. The group blends folk, bluegrass, country, blues, jazz, punk, and ragtime music. Guitarist Pete Bernhard, upright bassist MorganEve Swain, and guitarist and tenor banjo player Cooper McBean have released seven full-length studio albums and three live recordings. Their latest, Spirits, came out in February. The evening's lineup includes Bridge City Sinners.

Where: Observatory North Park, 2891 University Avenue, North Park. observatorysd.com

The Amazing Gray Whale Migration

Take in a presentation by Jane Barger, naturalist at the San Diego Natural History Museum. She will talk about the Eastern North Pacific Gray Whale, providing information about its population, migration, route, calving, feeding, and physical characteristics. Afterwards, enjoy vistas of the Batiquitos Lagoon from a nature trail along its north shore. The public walking and hiking trail is about 1.6 miles long.
