Love Your Wetlands Day is an opportunity to explore UC San Diego’s protected Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve in Mission Bay while also learning about the importance of coastal wetlands, the climate threats they face, and the ways local communities are working to restore and protect them.

Love Your Wetlands Day

Located in the densely populated urban area, Kendall-Frost Marsh is a laboratory and component of the University of California’s Natural Reserve System, a library of ecosystems throughout California representing most of the state’s major habitats. Kendall-Frost Marsh is also the backbone of the newly-approved City park plan with hundreds of acres for restored wetland habitat. Activities will take place throughout the day and are family friendly (no reservations required). There will be guided marsh and kayak clean ups, guided birding, booths from environmental organizations, educational presentations by local scientists, speeches by elected officials, cultural activities with indigenous leaders, native planting, and fish seining.

When: Saturday, February 1, 9 am to 2 pm

Where: Kendall-Frost Mission Bay Marsh Reserve, Fortuna Avenue and Crown Point Drive, Pacific Beach. sandiegobirdalliance.org

Rickie Lee Jones

Grammy-winning singer songwriter Rickie Lee Jones take the stage at Belly Up.


Over the course of a career that spans five decades and more than a dozen studio albums, Rickie Lee Jones has recorded rock, R&B, pop, soul, and jazz albums. Aside from her distinctive raspy vocals, she’s a pianist and guitarist who has collaborated with artists such as Ben Harper, Dion, and Steely Dan’s Walter Becker.
