Ray Brandes’ Tell-Tale Hearts Tribute at The Casbah

When singer Ray Brandes co-founded the Tell-Tale Hearts in 1983, they already looked like a band out of time, adopting a 1960s Yardbirds/Pretty Things style and sound. Since splitting around 1986, they’ve become a widely cited influence on countless garage rockers. Brandes will reprise the band’s brief catalog on a bill that includes The Wyld Gooms, The Sound Reasons, and DJ Victor Penalosa.

Founded in 1988, Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys specialize in roots, rockabilly, and swing music, and have become known for throwing raucous parties where no two setlists ever unfold the same way. Their most recent album, What a Dream It’s Been, was released last year. Also appearing will be local country swing band TK & the Deadlist.

“We’re just dirty pop singing about pizookie appetizers at BJ’s,” according to Auz Fontaine, who will host their annual Monday residency through January at the Soda Bar in City Heights. The group featuring producer Vic Fontaine and vocalist Captain Auzmo will preview music from their upcoming fourth album.

Ariel Levine has performed and recorded with Maren Parusel, Headphone, and Distractions: A Tribute to the Other Elvis, as well as writing and releasing solo material. In honor of what would have been David Bowie’s 78th birthday, Levine will be joined by locals from several different groups to play a tribute set featuring the entire 1976 Station to Station album, as well as selected cuts from Bowie’s 1980 album Scary Monsters.

Rapper, songwriter, and record producer Mark Battles came out of Indianapolis, Indiana in 2011 with his hit single “Last Night,” going on to amass more than 50 million streams on digital platforms such as Spotify and YouTube Music. He released a new album earlier this year, Do Not Disturb. The bill includes DJ the Rapper and Ridgio.
