Whitney Shay Quartet at Golden Island

Whitney Shay is a 2019 Blues Music Award nominee, and she won Best Blues Album and Artist of the Year trophies at the 2019 San Diego Music Awards. She won Best Blues Album at the 2021 SDMAs, and her Stand Up full-length earned a three and a half star review in Downbeat magazine and topped Billboard’s blues chart. Her groups have included Shay & the Hustle and the JazzKatz Orchestra, as well as fronting her current Quartet.
Beatles Fair at Queen Bee’s Art & Cultural Center

This year’s Beatles Fair celebrates all things fab with panels, Q&As, a memorabilia dealer’s room, and performances. Scheduled to appear are True Stories, The Revolution Band, Oasiz, The Suzanne Gladstone Trio, and The 63eatles, which specialize in Beatles tunes heard circa 1962 -1964, including some of the classics by Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Eddie Cochran that the band featured in early set lists.
Lucy’s Fur Coat at the Belly Up Tavern

Lucy’s Fur Coat formed in 1991, signing to Relativity Records and releasing Jaundice in 1994. They’ve split and regrouped several times over the years for one-off shows, including a 2008 set and a pair of September 2015 performances. The bill includes Miniaturized (featuring members of Rocket From the Crypt, No Knife, and Buckfast Superbee) and Sunbendr.
Peter Sprague Trio at Scripps Miramar Ranch Library

The Pleasure of Your Company concert series opens the new season with the Peter Sprague Trio. Sprague picked up the guitar at age 12, studying with San Diego jazz guitarist Bill Coleman. Following a year of study at the Interlochen Arts Academy, Sprague studied with Pat Metheny in Boston and performed with Chick Corea’s band. He began his recording career in the late ’70s, releasing albums via his own label, SB.

The Naked I describes itself as “probably your mom’s favorite young rock band.” Their funky pop rock has made them regulars on the local club scene, and they’ve spread their sound about via videos for “Further From Freedom” and performance footage featured on Youtube by Twin Star Studios and Garage Mahal Sessions. The show will be opened by Andrew Barrack and The Wasting Light.
