Mission Valley musician Marcela Mendez performs a selection of rock tunes that range from the 1960s up to current radio hits. A Bay Area native, she relocated to San Diego in 2001 and has made a name for herself playing local resorts and eateries. “My show differs on whichever guitar player I’m working with,” she told the Reader in 2022. “They play, and I follow. I just know it’s always going to be entertaining.”
Kimmi Bitter at Coronado Library

The Coronado Library’s Autumn Concert Series presents San Diego native Kimmi Bitter, who has a strong affinity for the roots of American music. She is inspired by the delicate singer-songwriters of 1970s and vintage country music, styling her songs around the classic sounds of Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Linda Ronstadt. The performance takes place in the Winn Room.

Rip Carson and the Carcinogenics is fronted by Rip Carson, who was born in Shawnee Hills, West Virginia and is currently based in La Mesa. Citing influences such as Buddy Holly, The Ventures, The Smiths, and The Ramones, he first earned local notice with the Bonneville 7. He’s gone on to become a staple in Southern California rockabilly and has toured throughout Europe and the U.S.
SoCal Heavy Jam at Winstons Beach Club

The third annual SoCal Heavy Jam takes place in Ocean Beach, with a slate of local bands kicking off at 3pm. Headliners Desert Suns, founded in 2013, play psychedelic hard rock. North County heavy metal band Great Electric Quest formed in 2010, and Lord Howler won Best Hard Rock at the 2010 San Diego Music Awards, a trophy they took home again in August 2012. The bill also features Old Blood, Formula 400, and Max Boogie Overdrive.
The Mothmen at Belly Up Tavern

Fronted by singer Ray Brandes, the Mothmen sport deep ties in the San Diego scene, with members coming from the Crawdaddys, the Penetrators, the Tell-Tale Hearts, and the Unknowns. The event includes a silent auction, with proceeds benefitting the Burn Institute’s mission to educate and inspire the community in order to reduce burn injuries and empower those affected by burn trauma.
