Heavy Hawaii at Soda Bar

Heavy Hawaii was formed in 2009 by guitarist Matt Bahamas (née Barajas), who formerly played in Fantastic Magic with future Wavves frontman Nathan Williams (who played mandolin). Heavy Hawaii were nominated Best New Artist at the San Diego Music Awards in 2010, and the band’s video for “Boy Don’t Drown” took home a trophy for Best Video at the 2021 SDMAs. The bill includes Keepers and Permissive Rot.
Wacken Metal Battle at Brick By Brick

Established in 2004, the Wacken Metal Battle international band contest seeks to bring new talent from all over the world to local stages, with the winners performing in a large festival setting. The Linda Vista edition features Cascade Effect, Father Wolf, Versipul, Prime Prophecy, WarTroll, and Fadrait. The latter group, a progressive death metal outfit, won last year’s Wacken competition, earning a trip to Germany to perform as representative of the USA.
San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival at Rady Shell

The sixth annual San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival features outdoor events and a wide variety of cuisine and drink selections, as well as a day of soft Lights Out-style jazz. Hosted by Eric Darius, the lineup includes Boney James, Gregory Porter, Kenny Lattimore, Spyro Gyra, Pieces of a Dream, Alex Bugnon, Will Donato, Blake Aaron, Jeff Ryan, and Greg Manning.
Tasha Smith Godinez at Musicians Union Hall

La Mesa harpist Tasha Smith Godinez grew up in San Diego’s East County and attended San Diego State for her bachelor’s degree before heading off to France to study at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. She returned to San Diego State for her master’s and eventually became an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego. She will debut her album A New Day accompanied by Domenico Hueso on viola and electric bass, percussionist Christopher Garcia, and vocalist, Leonard Patton.
Death To All at Brick By Brick
June 25 and 26
Death To All features several former members of Death alongside players from Cynic, Testament, and Dark Angel. June 25 will find the band playing Death’s entire Scream Bloody Gore album, as well as a selection of old school tracks from Leprosy and Spiritual Healing. The June 26 show includes The Sound of Perseverance album played in full. The bill includes Cryptopsy.
