Hope for the future?
Holy crap, mere days after I wrote calling the Reader a right wing rag (for a stolen bike piece) you said “hold my beer” and published a sympathetic puff piece on Ashli Babbitt (“Questions Ashli Babbitt left behind”, Cover Story, January 24). What were you thinking?!? I guess it’s one way to gain attention, but dammit that’s insane.
I WILL, however, give you credit for publishing letters that called out that bullshit. Maybe you should re-read them and learn from your horrific mistake.

Babbitt bolstered
I was disgusted at the hateful letters from a handful of loathsome readers (“Sorry, not sorry for Ashli Babbitt,” Letters, Febraury 1) who expressed vile disregard for the life of an unarmed, diminutive, honorably discharged USAF veteran (who served during wartime, not safely at stateside) executed by an incompetent (at best), homicidal (at worst) Capitol police officer. He had already proven himself to be untrustworthy, and should have been relieved of his duties after the first of the two reckless incidences for which there should have been zero tolerance. Leaving a firearm in a restroom accessible to the public?! Discharging your firearm in a fit of rage over a car thief? This was one loose cannon, to say the very least, what a liability!
Michael Byrd is a coward. Even his own colleagues at the scene were shocked by his actions, and stated that there was no clear evidence he reacted appropriately as any officer would have. It was a blatant lie that “members of Congress” were at risk; that is laughable, to say the least. This lovely young wife and daughter was a patriot and a “peaceful protester”. She came to support President Trump. Unlike the BLM and Antifa, (and now Pro-Hamas rioters and true insurrectionists at the capitol recently, trying to breach) without even a handy can of soup in her backpack, much less a molotov cocktail or a weapon.
Michael Byrd is no hero, he is an absolute disgrace. How delusional he was to claim that he acted with great courage. Praising himself after killing a 110-lb. woman who he had no compelling reason whatsoever to believe was armed. He is pathetic.
This after I watched an entire nation mourn the death of a career felon who, at least on some level, resisted arrest and died in the process. He was buried in a gold coffin like a pagan god, a modern day King Tut, and his family compensated with millions.
Ashli Babbitt’s murder is long overdue to be avenged and her family made whole. If the MAGA Republicans were anything like the Marxist thugs who march in the streets, obstructing major traffic routes, loot, burn, and attempt (some successfully in 2020) to assassinate police officers, there would have been hell to pay, so to speak, after this young patriots was slain by a poor excuse for an “officer.” He should be switching places with Derek Chauvin, not receiving a promotion from this corrupt administration. The ‘neighbors’ who had the audacity to say she got what she deserved have the same mindset of the Pro-Hamas vermin (yes, the nicest word I can come up with) who blame the massacre of innocent Israelis on Israel for existing. I stand behind veteran Ashli Babbitt’s survivors in their pursuit of justice.

Don’t buy the Big Lie
It would seem reasonable that you anti-police, anti-gun, saviors of democracy could contain your delusional opinions about Jan. 6 and what insurrection didn’t happen on that day (“Sorry, not sorry for Ashli Babbitt,” Letters, Febraury 1). Obviously we were not there to witness the event, yet the released footage speaks for itself. I guess those BLM riots were peaceful protests and just folks exercising their rights to assemble. Attacking and destroying a federal courthouse, attempting to attack the White House and the rest of the estimated 20 billion dollars of damage they caused was justified right?
How ironic to name the coward that shot Ashli and liken him to a hero. He shot her first then called in “shots fired.” where is the demand to de-fund the police? Since MSNB or the Jan. 6 committee would never interview the Capitol Police chief or other officers that were present, you that have truly bought the “Big Lie” are simply garden variety Trump haters.
I hope your children are conscripted to fight these endless wars your president is pushing for or at least have your precious electric bike stolen by an asylum seeker that needs it much more than you. Shame on you people.
