Last week, La Jolla Doctor Mark Chavez was charged in the death of former Friends star Matthew Perry, who died last October following a ketamine overdose. Chavez has admitted to diverting ketamine from his former ketamine clinic and to making false representations to wholesale distributors, then selling the ketamine to Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who injected it into Perry on multiple occasions. The DEA reports that in one instance, Perry paid $2000 for a vial that cost Chavez just $12, and prosecutors allege that Plasencia texted Chavez, “I wonder how much this moron will pay.” In response, Democratic candidate for President Kamala Harris’ campaign issued the following statement: “Matthew Perry’s tragic death highlights the damage that the greedy pharmaceutical industry is willing to do in is relentless pursuit of profits. Matthew Perry was a great Friend. Now we can be a Friend to Perry and people like him by making sure that drugs cost less.”
