Cults at Observatory North Park
Aug 16
National headliners Cults features Ryan Mattos, aka Brian Oblivion (who once fronted a Slayer cover band) and Madeline Follin, whose stepfather co-founded White Zombie. Having met in 2009 at a concert, when Oblivion was tour manager for one of the bands, Willowz (featuring Follin’s brother), their first digital three-song 7-inch released via Bandcamp, earned them a Best New Music rave from Pitchfork. The show will be opened by Bnny.

Original power trio Los Santos specializes in Bachman Turner Overdrive–style anthems. The band’s tracks like “Viva Los Santos” are decidedly local-centric, with an accompanying video shot around town as they show increasing enthusiasm for “flyin’ down the 805, with a bottle of Beam and a gun in the glovebox.” The bill includes Frequency 1 and Lord Howler.
Javier Escovedo & the City Lights at Tower Bar
Aug 17
Javier Escovedo is part of a local musical family dynasty that includes Alejandro Escovedo — named by No Depression magazine as their Artist of the Decade in 1998 — and brothers Coke, Pete, and Mario. Coke and Pete were percussionists at various times in the Santana band, and Mario, who lives in San Diego, fronted The Dragons. Also appearing will be Gary Wilson & the Blind Dates and Jack Habegger’s Celebrity Telethon.
San Diego Rock Icons at Winstons
Aug 18
Longtime local rock icons will gather in OB to celebrate San Diego music. Performers include one-time Beat Farmers henchman Joey Harris with his band the Mentals. The Blitz Brothers have been opening shows for touring headliners since the ‘70s and ‘80s. The Shenanigans feature local DJ icon Jim McInnes backed by a rotating roster of local stars.
Daring Greatly at the Belly Up
Aug 21
Daring Greatly relocated from Calgary in Alberta, Canada to San Diego in August 2015, fronted at the time by Dail Croome and his two sons, Patrick and Liam, who were brought up on stage with their father. The elder Croome is now retired from the group, but the band was nominated Best Rock Artist at the 2022 San Diego Music Awards. They won a 2023 Song of the Year SDMA trophy for the track “Never A Goodbye.”
