More taxes on electric cars, please

Shifting delivery routes for Reader

More taxes, please

This is in regards to your story about the gas tax vs. use tax question. ("Do EVers deserve the swerve?", Neighborhood News, July 25). Apparently, the state has come up with another goddamn online form which nobody uses. We need to keep the gas tax and add a road mileage use tax on all electric vehicles and add a road use tax on all bicycles to pay for the bicycle lanes that they use and double the bicycle tax on all electric bikes. The corporate world has given us electric cars and sold us a bill of goods.

I think the average person driving an electric car would be shocked to see the little black boys in Africa mining the stuff that makes their vehicle possible. We talk about racial equity, and then we say, "Screw the people in another country." But you know, if you’re using the highway, I don’t care if your car’s electric, gas or steam-powered you need to pay for the use of the highway so we can keep it and repair it. So just keep the gas tax and add a usage tax mileage tax on all electric vehicles.

Editor – We apologize for any difficulties. We are reconfiguring the distribution routes, and some areas are getting papers earlier than before and some later than before. Unless there is a printing problem, all papers should be delivered by 12 noon on Thursday.

A digital edition of the print version is available by Wednesday 12 noon on the Reader homepage at sandiegoreader.com, and includes clickable links in stories and ads, theater and movie listings, and even classified ads.
