The Frights at Observatory North Park Oct 27

Surf-punkers the Frights were still teens when they formed the band around 2012. Their major label debut was produced by FIDLAR frontman Zac Carper (SWMRS, Dune Rats), mixed by Rob Kinelski (Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, 30 Seconds To Mars) and mastered by multiple Grammy Winner Greg Calbi (Arcade Fire, Tame Impala, the War on Drugs). The North Park bill includes L.A. punk band Death Lens, who have a new release on Epitaph Records.

Embers at Music Box Oct 28

A few weeks ago, Embers released an indie-emo EP to: the moon, preceded by a single for “scratch my name.” Embers cites influences such as Lil Peep, Bright Eyes, Machine Gun Kelly, and Linkin Park. They’ll play backup for aspiring Death Cab For Karaoke singers (“We play, you sing”), as well as performing a full band set celebrating the new record.

“Swami” John Reis may be familiar to many people from local experimental rock acts such as Pitchfork, Hot Snakes, and Drive Like Jehu, but his best known band will probably always remain Rocket From the Crypt, which will stage its annual Halloween reunion show downtown. The bill includes on-site tattoo artists and Long Beach surf rockers Tijuana Panthers.

The Creepy Creeps at the Casbah Oct 28

The Creepy Creeps is made up of players from bands such as the Locust, Struggle, and Tarantula Hawk. The band usually dresses in mariachi clothes, with skulls painted on their faces. The all-local Halloween party bill includes female fronted rock group Scary Pierre and electro-blues band Low Volts.

Chloe Lou & the Liddells at the Casbah Oct 29

Founded in 2018 and based in Ramona, Chloe Lou & the Liddells play bluesy country soul music with an oldies feel. Her backing band was founded by members of the Penetrators, Crawdaddys, Nashville Ramblers, and Bartenders Bible. The release party for their sophomore album XVII includes sets from Jeff Berkley & the Banned and Lauren Leigh, who released her second solo full-length, Ghost in the Picture, last year.
