Ten Bulls gig, Stark Shay single, Alific album, Berkley Hart tribute, Drunkard’s Dream festival

“The ensuing Zen-inspired realization that life continues anyway”

Ten Bulls
Ten Bulls

Formed in 2016 as Sights & Sages, alt-experimental rock band Ten Bulls was founded by members who had also played together in local groups such as Neveready and Love Glow. Their debut Ten Bulls album The Physician’s Magician was released in late 2020. They’ll appear at the Casbah on Thursday, March 30, along with fellow locals Lead Pony, whose founding members met while attending art programs at SDSU.

Stark Shay

Cleopatra Degher was 20 when she released her debut EP in summer 2012. Her sister Cordelia Degher dropped her first EP Open Up in 2015. The sisters joined together in 2020, calling themselves Stark Shay. A new single drops March 31, “Days of Change,” described by songwriter Darius Degher (the duo’s father) as “a philosophical heartbreaker, about a relationship coming apart and the ensuing Zen-inspired realization that life continues anyway, change being the only certainty for any of us.”

Alific

Artist/producer Brendan Dane, aka Alific, lived in San Diego for six years and played reggae bass before relocating to Washington DC. His sophomore full-length Echoes From The Soul, featuring collaborations with Scott Woodruff and Kevin Bong of local reggae heroes Stick Figure, premiered at number two on the reggae iTunes and Billboard charts. He’ll debut a new album at Winstons in OB on Thursday, March 30, with a lineup that includes Divina of Boostive and Aaron Wolf.

Berkley Hart

On April 2 at the Music Box, Jeff Berkley and Calman Hart will once again present their tribute to the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? with an all-star staging of O Berkley, Where Hart Thou? The evening features the duo's collaborative project Berkley Hart, along with the reunited 7th Day Buskers, including Shawn Rohlf, Robin Henkel, Melissa Dow, Doug Walker, and Peter Sharp. Also appearing will be Tim Flannery, Black Market III, Astra Kelly, Cathryn Beeks, Justin Rodriguez, Grandpadrew, and Story & Tune.

Drunkard

For the second year, the Drunkard’s Dream Arts & Music Festival returns to Barrio Logan’s ReBru Spirits on April 1. Chest Fever, featuring members of Mrs. Henry, will be recreating Music From Big Pink, the debut album from Canadian rock group The Band. The bill includes Zander Schloss (Circle Jerks), Spacehall Sound Machine, The Mattson 2, Boostive, Drug Hunt, Low Volts, The Sleepwalkers, and Mike Pope with Ripening.
