A less classy news operation might not have obscured the accused teacher’s face with the sort of tasteful “censored bar” often reserved for stories about pornography, but we did, especially since she has not yet been proven guilty of performing oral sex on a 13-year-old former student.
Last week, 34-year-old award-winning Lincoln Acres Elementary School teacher Jacqueline Ma was arrested on six felony counts of sexual misconduct with a child under the age of 14, including three counts of oral copulation. And while some media outlets might attempt to arouse readers’ interest with tawdry double entendres about Basic Anatomy and snickering wordplay about acing the oral exams, you won’t find any of that sort of thing here. What’s more, we would never treat a quote from a shocked former student that read, “She was the teacher that we wanted so bad…you feel like you can build a relationship with her,” as having a hilariously lascivious undertone. We recognize that sexual abuse is no laughing matter, even when it tracks closely with the lyrics of Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher.”
