Nominated for Best Rock Artist at the 2022 San Diego Music Awards, Canadian transplants Daring Greatly will headline a packed Music Box bill on Thursday, January 12 in Little Italy. Co-headliner Ash Easton released her third studio album Rough & Tough this past summer, previewed by a single for “Blow My Mind.” The lineup includes blues/soul/funk/Americana artist Shane Hall, who took home a trophy for Best Americana, Jazz or Blues Song at the 2021 SDMAs, as well as singer/guitarist Daniel Cervantes (Whiskey Circle, Howlin Rain, Creature & the Woods, Mrs. Henry).

Blazing Jane

Female-fronted rock/soul/funk/pop band Blazing Jane has played venues such as the Holding Company, Winstons, and the mobile Wonderbus. Their 2021 debut album Heading To the Sun spawned four music videos, including footage of the group performing tracks such as “Watching” and “Something Beautiful.” On Saturday, January 14, Blazing Jane is playing a pre-release listening party for their second album at Duck Foot Brewing in Miramar from 2 to 5 pm.

Locals Only Wave Parade

Wednesday, January 18 will see the Belly Up in Solana Beach hosting four area bands for a Locals Only theme night. Veni Sun is described by frontman Jared Henry as his “backyard music project,” new Oceanside blues band Audio Perdisco features rising guitar star Enrique Sotelo, Born to Rise is soon to release their sophomore album Along For the Ride, and Wave Parade was founded by former members of West Beast, Archery for the Blind, Ricksha, and Skyline Union.

Hutchins Consort

The Hutchins Consort performs on the eight scaled models of the violin octet designed and built by famed luthier Dr. Carleen Hutchins. On January 20 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Encinitas, the ensemble will pair the music of J.S. Bach with rock and roll arrangements. The event includes the premiere of Steve Huber’s arrangement of selections from the Who’s Quadrophenia.

Stanley Drucker

North county musician Stanley Drucker is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as having the longest career of any clarinet player, having spent 61 years with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Aside from performing with icons such as Leonard Bernstein, his son Lee Rocker became famous as a founding member of The Stray Cats. Drucker passed away December 19 at the age of 93.
