Alicia Previn

Singer/violinist Alicia Previn recently took part in a session with reggae producer The Scientist for an upcoming Paul McCartney project, a new version of “Frank Sinatra’s Party” from Egypt Station Explorer’s Edition. Previn’s own upcoming single, “Purpose of a Dog,” features her son Max O’Reilly playing guitars and electronic drums and was produced by Jeff Forrest for Noise Cartel Records, with a video streaming online. The March 20 single release party at the Casbah will feature her backed by The Zach Gutierrez Trio.

Nathan Hubbard

Percussionist Nathan Hubbard’s Troikastra project is a cross country trio with Michigan-based drummer/electronic musician Curtis Glatter and California-based turntable icon Tenshun. According to Hubbard, “The trio creates kaleidoscopic music from samples, 16rpm turntables, and modular synths, for fans of musique concrete, plunderphonics, and skipping exotica records.” Troikastra’s new album It’s The Door With The Little Stairs comes with a video for “You Are One.”

Ass Pocket Whiskey Fellas

Formed in 2011, Ass Pocket Whiskey Fellas perform Irish traditional tunes and rock music. Regarding their name: “When we first started playing together, our former cajon player would bring a chilled flat pint bottle of whiskey to each practice,” says singer-mandolinist George Davis. They have a new CD called Third Flagon, which includes one local-centric track called “Grunion Run.” Sample lyric: “Storming the beach as if it were a grunion, flyin’ out of the sky, hit the ground running.”

Almost Monday

Almost Monday is an alternative rock band featuring teen surfing pals Dawson Daugherty (vocals, bass) and Luke Fabry (guitar), later joined by Cole Clisby (guitar). The band recently made their Korean concert debut, where they were reportedly greeted nearly as enthusiastically as K-pop stars. They’ll play the Music Box in Little Italy on Thursday, February 23, topping a bill that includes Doublecamp and Foxtide.
