Michael May -- aka Meidai -- is a hip-hop MC who launched his label Off Da Wall MusiQ in 2006. “My hip-hop alias Meidai, pronounced Mayday, means ‘a very strong individual’ in Greek,” he says. “It’s also a three-headed horse ram dragon.” Meidai’s newest full-length Who Needs Therapy dropped in May. Headliner Evilthxts is touring in support of a new album called Most Judged.

Buddha Trixie at House of Blues Dec 15

Buddha Trixie released their debut four-song EP, Real, in 2015. They’ve gone on to amass around two million Spotify streams, with their newest single “Always Yours” released in October. They recently played their first out-of-state gig in Phoenix, Arizona. The downtown bill includes Granada Hills alt-rockers Mexican Slum Rats and Floats, featuring former Junkie members.

Post-modern pop band TV Girl was founded by singer Brad Petering while he attended UC Davis. The band frequently samples other artists in their music, a practice that once got them in legal hot water for using part of a Todd Rundgren track. A new album dropped earlier this year, Grapes Upon the Vine, and they recently released a collaborative album with Varial Heel called Ace of Tre.

Cattle Decapitation at Observatory North Park Dec 16

Cattle Decapitation is known for wearing masks made of beef jerky onstage, a statement regarding the trivialization of animal remains for human consumption. According to their press, the band “brings forth the ideas of vegetarianism with the utmost brutal approach in expression, both musically and imagery. [Their] sound will bring elements of older death/grind, inbred with utterly impossible low vocals, while being stabbed by immense drumming.”

Ziggy Shuffledust at the Casbah Dec 16

David Bowie tribute band Ziggy Shuffledust & the Spiders From Mars is fronted by Gary Shuffler, who played with hard rockers Honey Glaze until they broke up in 1993. He’s also fronted tribute bands doing the music of Adam and the Ants, the Who, Queen, Bauhaus, and Guns N’ Roses. Also appearing will be T Rex tribute Electric Warriors, with a DJ set from Camilla Robina.
