Founded in 2014 and based in Carlsbad, Aviator Stash released their album Prescribed in 2018. It was recorded, mixed, and mastered by James Page at Emerald Age Recording. In August 2021, their full-length Psiyh took home a San Diego Music Award for Best Indie/Alternative Album. The San Carlos bill includes northeast Ohio pop rockers Indre.
Founded by brothers Joshua and Jeremiah Zimmerman, The Silent Comedy began as a sort of old timey theatrical troupe before evolving into what Jeremiah describes as a blues and rock folk hybrid, with acoustic instruments plugged into amps. “It’s electric blues rock played with folk instruments. Like a tent revival and a hoedown but happening at a whiskey bar.” They’ll play a free all-ages afternoon concert on the Encinitas sand, along with Carlsbad’s Donna Drive.
Performers at OB’s 7th Annual Summer Punk Rock Beach Fest include Kitty Plague, founded in 2011 when several members including Mark Haemmerle of Starcrossed met at the Skybox open mic night in Clairemont. The bill includes Brazilian/American band Midnight Track, which plays punk rock music with ska and reggae influences. Also appearing will be Toxins, Abortz, Roachotel, Under Influence, and Substitute Gym Teacher.
Citing influences such as Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, Lord Howler says they’re “all about twin guitar attack and hooks you can remember.” They won Best Hard Rock at the 2010 San Diego Music Awards, a trophy they took home again in August 2012. Their album Dance of the Ghosts was produced by Ben Moore and recorded at Audio Design and Singing Serpent studios. The bill includes Ape Machine and Erratic Impulse.
Joshua Taylor began performing soul, blues, rock, folk, and jazz around town in 2011, eventually taking a gig as a session singer and guitarist on producer Jeff Berkley’s Satellite Studio roster. His most recent album Unscene, recorded with Berkley and Sven-Erik Seaholm, dropped late last year. The bill includes acoustic duo Folkloric and instrumental quartet Sweater Weather.
