The new Howlin Rain album, Under The Wheels Vol. 5: Live from Pioneertown was recorded last December at Pappy & Harriet’s and includes a 19-minute version of “Dharma Wheel.” Due October 14 on bandleader Ethan Miller’s Silver Current Records, the album features a new lineup with guitarist Jason Soda and bassist Kyle Wilcox joining Miller and longtime drummer Justin Smith. Says Miller, “Pioneertown was the last show of the crazy year of 2021 and you can hear the whoosh of energy and confidence, the extra drinks, the rules lifted in the high desert setting, the exhale of the finish line.”
Originally based in southern New Jersey and now living in Clairemont, punk band Just in Case released their self-titled debut full-length in 2008. Earlier this year, they filmed a video for “No Aim,” a track off their Roll With the Punches EP. A new single is streaming for a single called “Delayed Reaction,” with a lyric video available on Youtube.
Singer-songwriter Sven-Erik Seaholm will debut his album Oxford, Comma at Humphreys Backstage on November 16 with a full six-piece band. The collection of new original power pop songs is his first release in several years, due to taking time off “to do life stuff. Things that I felt were more important than my musical career.” The bill includes Joey Harris and all-woman folk group Calamity.
Driven by 1990s electronic music, hip-hop, and trip-hop, DJ Pnutz records with turntables, drums, Roland synthesizers and sequencers, and Ableton. A new EP called Trick R Beat 2: The Halloween Drum and Bass Remixes is due October 13, featuring six reimagined Halloween tracks such as “Gaslit,” “The Final Nightmare,” and “40000 Years of Funk ft. Roughneck Jihad.”
The drabs are an independent rock band based in North County led by composer, guitarist, and lead vocalist David Bernat. Their new album Hurry Light features ten original tracks recorded primarily at local Singing Serpent, with piano tracking at Rarefied Recording. The band’s third official release again taps Ben Moore for recording and mixing (and organ), with local guests Andy Geib (flugelhorn), Shelbi Bennett (vocals), and Ed Kornhauser (piano).
