Pastor Karla on Hell
I’d like to comment on the Sheep and Goats interview concerning St. Mark’s Lutheran Church (Reader website, Oct. 14). In reading the church and denomination websites, I discovered that they undermine the authority of Scripture to embrace the unbiblical philosophies of men.
Pastor Karla seems to have some difficulty with hell, which Jesus spoke about extensively. God’s justice and holiness require that we all be punished for our rebellion and wrongs (sins) in thought, words, and deeds against God.
The Lutheran Book of Concord-based upon God’s inerrant Word states, “the punishment and penalty of original sin which God has imposed upon children of Adam....are death, eternal damnation and also bodily and spiritual, temporal and eternal miseries...”
But the good news is Jesus took the punishment for our sins on the cross. As Romans 6:23 tells us, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” So, we must repent, trust, believe, and follow Jesus.
Newbreak Coffee not roasters
This is regarding the letter published in your newspaper under the heading “Homeless Bootcamp at Ocean Beach,” Nov. 3.
A few corrections that your writer and readers should know: The name of my coffee shop is Newbreak Coffee and Cafe established in 1993 and the Abbott location since 1999. We are NOT Roasters.
Our large coffee at this time is $2.95, the same as Starbucks. My current staff and I never heard of the song “Illegal Woman.” I am not a Latina; what difference does nationality make? I am Palestinian.
The painted eyelashes and “How are you?” are now offensive? Maybe if your writer is so concerned about the houseless situation he or she should address it with the local politicians rather than the business owners. Have a good day.
Decade delay on collab query
I really liked the article about the 3D version of the band’s “Insects” music video. (Local 3D film production company helms Osaka Popstar video, September 2012) and I think it would be cool for us to collaborate.
Let me know what you think.

Kudos to Ryan Brothers for his great article “ROAM” about his trek to Lawson Peak. (“Two hikers on the ascent to Lawson Peak and two on the way down,” Nov. 10)
I would surely take this hike if years hadn’t taken a toll on the knees. But then this piece really takes you there step for step. I have, in the past, taken many “hikes” that were put to this forum by Jerry Schad — RIP. I hope to see many more articles like this here by Mr. Ryan.
