“One of the greatest things is you get more offerings than you do in regular church. When that usher walks up to the car, everybody puts something in the cup. It’s a gimmick, let’s face it.” People attend drive-in churches first because they’re curious. “They see an ad in the paper for drive-in worship and they laugh, or they drive by the drive-in theater and there’s my sign out there: New Hope Community Church, Dave Galloway, Pastor, X-rated films.”

Chris Hillman used to be in a lot of different groups. He was with Stephen Stills. He’s from San Diego, used to hang out at the Blue Guitar. He was with the Byrds. He was an original Byrd. No one that made national prominence. Hedge and Donna did pretty well for a while but faded out. The closest now to national prominence is Tom Waits. This over-concern with odor can be most easily seen on the dance floor, where nobody, but nobody ever works up a sweat. The "bump"is de rigueur, and when the dance floor is crowded (it almost always is. dancing being the first move in the game of love), even the most wary are liable to end up bruised and aching. I worked it out one night that a single person can be bumped by as many as seven people at once and still miss her partner.

Her lifestyles have run the gamut from three houses and an engineer husband to the women's collective where she now lives, with no husband, in fact, with no men at all. This new lifestyle, with its banging screen doors letting in flies, laundry on the floor, heavily liberated women and Sisters Share bumperstickers, is the one she seems happy with.
