David DeCleene, born in 1951, hails from Oak Park, IL. He attended Quigley North High School and graduated from St. Ignatius High School, both in Chicago. He studied Chinese at Seton Hall University, in Orange, NJ, and Taiwan Normal University, Taipei, working as a journalist at both the China Post English Daily and Asian Sources Magazine. He received a BA in English from the University of Hawaii and went on to teach at St. Joseph High School in Hilo, Hawaii for 20 years. Now retired, he substitute teaches in Hawaii and Wisconsin, where he and his wife Susan split their time. They have two grown children.
