How long have you been surfing?
Chris: We're brothers. Our dad started taking us out surfing when we were like 6.
Tom: It was really tough learning. I gave up probably after the first year. A couple of years later I gave it another try. Really you just need to put time in the water. People say, “I want to surf,” without realizing it’s really hard. You need to do it for at least 30 days straight to even feel like you are any good at it.
Chris: Yeah, It’s challenging at first, but once you get the edge, you get the edge. Once you start doing well, you’ll get it. Don’t just try it once or five times. You have to try it a bunch of times.
Tom: Practice makes perfect.
What is your favorite surf spot?
Chris: The pier here in Oceanside is awesome, and Trestles and Blacks.
Tom: I like to surf all over San Diego.
Least favorite beach?
Tom: Ocean Beach after it rains.
Have you had any crazy surfing experiences?
Chris: We got attacked by a seal out here! We were both out together and this seal started bumping our boards. The seal started getting out of the water and barking at us.
Tom: It was definitely aggressive. We would catch a wave and it would be right next to us hitting our boards. When we would paddle back out, it would follow us and bark at us literally trying to bite at our ankles.
Chris: I was scared out of my mind. I got out of the water right away!
Tom: I mean a seal’s teeth are like a dog’s, so we were like, alright we are out of here!
Have you gone on any cool surf trips?
Tom: We went up the coast of California. There is so much surf here in California, so to explore different spots outside of San Diego was really cool.
