Lindsay White’s anxiety, Seawall Prophet’s ledge, Josh Weinstein’s reality, Joshua Taylor’s solo, Gilbert Castellanos’ 1st release in a decade

“The holidays can often be reminders of people we’ve lost”

Lindsay White says her new single “No Stopping It” is about dealing with anxiety. “After my daughter was born, the coping mechanisms morphed into something called dermatillomania, or skin-picking,” she says. “Sometimes it’s frustrating to feel like my body is playing this sick game of emotional whack-a-mole…I don’t exactly want to be friends with this stuff, but I don’t want to make an enemy of it either.”

Seawall Prophet

Aaron Markland is an OB-raised USAF Veteran, retired Albuquerque Firefighter, and self-proclaimed soul surfer whose band Markland at various time featured both his brother and father. His current project Seawall Prophet just dropped a couple of singles via local Pacific Records, “Hundred Dollar Boulevard” and “Already Gone,” in advance of their EP Off the Ledge. Markland performs solo Wednesday, December 21, at Wonderland Ocean Beach.

“I’m releasing a Christmas song this week, ‘Ghost of Christmas,’” says keyboardist Josh Weinstein. “It’s a little untraditional. It’s nostalgic and talks to the people who lost or don’t have their family on the holidays…I know we all like that Norman Rockwell version of the holidays, but for many folks, the reality is more complicated. The holidays can often be reminders of people we’ve lost, or parents we miss, or kids we want to be seeing but are not.”

Joshua Taylor

The new crowdfunded album from Joshua Taylor (King Taylor Project), Unscene, was preceded by singles for “Cars Don’t Run Forever” and “Reckless Kind of Love.” The album release party happens at the Casbah on Tuesday, December 20, where the lineup includes Jeff Berkley (who produced Taylor’s album) with his group The Banned, as well as Story & Tune, consisting of poet-vocalist Karyn Thurston and singer-songwriter Ben Grace. San Diego Music Award-winning multi-instrumentalist Jonny Tarr will perform in the adjacent Razzmatazz Room between sets.

Gilbert Castellanos

On December 17 at the Copley Auditorium in Balboa Park (between Panama 66 and the Museum of Art), Gilbert Castellanos will perform at the release party for his first album in ten years. The album title Esperame en el Cielo translates in English to Wait For Me In Heaven. A second performance will be staged on Sunday, December 18.
