I am continually irked that the San Diego Reader routinely excludes information about many San Diego areas, including mine, Santee, but devotes big chunks of space to Mexico (“Borderland Beat shut down”, News Ticker, November 9), which is not only not part of San Diego, but is not even part of the United States. I know that there are a lot of Mexicans who live here, but a lot more San Diegans in neighborhoods that you don’t even mention. I also know that an awful lot of the Mexicans can affect San Diego, that is Mexican things, including a lot of negative things: our ocean and bay pollution from Mexican sewage, Mexican gangs, Mexican warfare, Mexican drug and people trafficking. So, please focus on San Diego, your magazine’s very namesake, rather than acting like Mexico is part of San Diego, and give me more information on San Diego neighborhoods.
It’s ironic that someone would lament, as a “Recovering Democrat”, the “Attitude of Entitlement” of today’s Democrat leaders (“Silent no Longer,” Letters, November 11). No one has a greater sense of entitlement than Donald Trump. Born with $35 million (conservative estimate) and avoiding any real service to his country of birth (5 deferments), his entire life has been a life of selfishness and greed. I’m still trying to imagine the story that Trump supporters tell themselves in order to not question why he has fought so hard to keep his taxes hidden. It makes sense that they question the actual results of the election since Trump tried to claim fraud weeks before the election (and they believe everything that comes out of his mouth). The only reason Trump got as many votes as he did is a tribute to his abilities as a fear and hate monger, not a validation of his character. Reality isn’t “fake” and compassion does actually matter!
