“Some people say that Lego should stay away from such difficult subjects as mostly peaceful protests and their effect on the great American cities represented in miniature at Legoland California,” says park spokesman Chaz Chop. “But really, we’ve always been engaged in this sort of thing. Just look at New Orleans: that’s a jazz funeral procession taking place in the street. Sure, it’s a cultural landmark, but it’s also an opportunity to contemplate and discuss the reality of death, as well as the ways people deal with grief. And of course, when we put the Freedom Tower in place, we knew we were harkening back to the awful destruction of the World Trade Center towers on 9/11. Lots to talk about there, of course. The United States’ foreign policy, radicalization, terrorism, conspiracy theories, endless war doctrine, and on and on. These preview images should give you a glimpse of what’s going on in Wokeville, our latest installment: protest, police provocation, pushback, and the placement of property above people. We can’t wait to welcome you back!”
