Wouldn’t it be nice to live in Mike Love’s Fairbanks Ranch mansion?

Ocean, mountain, and golf course views for the Beach Boys singer

Maybe you can’t sing like a Beach Boy, but you can live like one!

“Rarely does such a spectacular property become available in the exclusive guard gated community of Fairbanks Ranch in Rancho Santa Fe,” boast listing materials for the mansion at 17261 Circa Oriente, as retrieved from Realtor.com. “This significant, state of the art, luxurious, one-of-a-kind, 17,515-square-foot custom estate compound with breathtaking 270-degree panoramic ocean, mountain, and golf course views, is perched on one of the highest lots” in the development, and covers nearly three-and-a-half private acres.

“Design details begin with impressive decorative entry gates that open to the winding driveway flanked with tropical landscape to the entry porte-cochère with fountain, and oversized custom doors of glass & wrought iron,” the listing continues. That entry leads to a grand foyer flanked by dual staircases and also housing a massive wrought iron chandelier.

The main chef’s kitchen is equipped with a suite of professional-grade appliances along with a butler’s pantry, bar seating, and breakfast nook; it opens to the family room, outfitted with “soothing saltwater aquariums.” There’s also a “formal living room with fireplace, formal bar, large-scale formal dining room,” an office, chilled wine cellar with adjacent tasting room, private theatre, “game room with professional service bar,” and even a custom meditation room.

Right staircase? Left staircase? Oh, never mind; just take the elevator.

“Eight luxurious bedroom en-suites with multiple walk-out terraces and balconies throughout will provide comfort for all your family members and guests,” and there’s also a fully self-contained one-bedroom guest house, but “the expansive master retreat” is of course the showstopper. It “encompasses a generous custom built-out dressing room, a sitting area with fireplace, wet bar with wine and beverage center as well as a double-sided glass walk luxurious spa bath,” in addition to a private terrace with “jaw-dropping panoramic ocean and mountain views.”

Savant digital technology allows control of the audio, video, and other home systems via iPad, while a private elevator offers an alternative to the stairways leading between the home’s three levels. In addition to an extensive solar system, the estate is also supplied by its own private well.

“The San Diego lifestyle would not be complete without an enhanced outdoor living experience,” the listing notes. “Where do we begin?”

Start with a resort-sized vanishing edge pool, complete with swim-up bar and remote-controlled shade awnings; then add a floating island that houses a gas firepit and seating area along with a spa featuring “anatomically correct custom seating and foot jets.” Retractable glass walls open up the interior space to several patios, an outdoor living room, and a “fully appointed outdoor summer kitchen.”

Below the pool deck, there’s a private tennis court with its own dedicated bath and dressing room. The grounds also feature an “extravagant multi-level water feature as a replica of the famed fountains of Villa D’este in Lago De Como Italy.”

Public records indicate that ownership of the property resides with Michael Love and Jacquelyn Piesen, who purchased the 1992-built home in 2009 for a reported $3 million. Love is best known for his work as a founding member of the 1960s surf rock group the Beach Boys, which landed him in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The couple’s full-time home is in Incline Village, Nevada, and Love continues to tour as one of the two remaining Boys active with the group.

The Circa Oriente estate was first listed for sale in August 2019 with an asking price of $8,750,000. It was recently re-listed in late February with a $100,000 price reduction; that number remains unchanged to date.
