When ℒund’s “Reflection” dropped on YouTube and SoundCloud four months ago, I couldn’t decipher his style of music. The 2:47 song begins with a bass guitar rhythm reminiscent of the Bully video game theme song, then followed by an acoustic guitar as ℒund begins to sing:

• I look in the mirror
• and I hate my reflection
• watch hands move on the clock
• till my head spin
• now all I can do is
• pick apart my imperfections
• don’t give me fate, love
• just give me fake love

Many of the 600,000 viewers of the YouTube post complained about the song’s melancholy. But after clicking the back button a few times to listen more closely, I found it to be soothing. In fact, it pacified my anxiety which stemmed from attempting to type his name with the stylized “L” on a Google search. I ended up copying and pasting “ℒund” and the stylized “ℒ” remained intact.

“Robert ℒund, mostly known as ℒund, is an up and coming SoundCloud artist that has recently gained fame with his songs “Broken” and “Alone” released in 2016,” posted Abraham Tse on the Genius.com site. “ℒund is a cloud rapper, characterized by hazy vocals, emotional lyrics, and dreamlike beats.”

Genius.com says it’s a “source of music knowledge, created by scholars... from around the world, who share facts and insight about the songs and artists they love.”

Tse’s description of ℒund was upvoted over 100 times. The more knowledgeable and better articulated posts regarding subject matter receives upvotes from the other users, and if another user surpasses Tse’s upvotes — he or she will garner the ‘genius’ title on explaining who ℒund truly is.

ℒund posts and re shares on Instagram and Twitter with minimal to no captions, and apparently his low-key demeanor adds to his appeal: per multiple compliments from his female fanbase.

“These lyrics cut to[o] deep, it’s kinda scary how relatable the lyrics are,” said a female fan. “Beautiful song — keep going ℒund.”

Many others wondered when “Reflection” would drop on the Spotify app — which will allow listeners to download the song in higher 320kbit/s sound quality.

On ℒund’s other tracks, he’s got that emo-rap vibe like on “Nintendo” from his 2018 BLKBIRD album — which according to Genius.com, features the lyrics:

• I should be sponsored by Nintendo

Maybe if I Googled ℒund with a regular “L”, more info will surface on the singer — I mean how did people learn about CHVRCHΞS, BØRNS.

“Google pretty much treats ‘ℒ’ identical to a normal ‘L,’” said Steve H., a ℒund fan and search engine optimization specialist from Chula Vista, “there’s no difference in the search for either of the spellings on that.”
