My heart goes out to Scott Marks for having to finally out Robert Downey Jr. (“Dolittle: Robert Downey, Jr. goes down,” Movie Reviews, January 16) Having managed to save a good portion of his integrity through the Marvel Ruinverse he has indeed gone full Nicolas Cage with DoLITTLE pardon my caps. I’m sure he sweated his butt off on the green screen and was fulfilled in some way. As an actor he must know what he has done. He’s gonna say ‘I did it for my kids’ or some such garbage but as any of us who watched him grow thru his career well... C’mon MAN! The pay must be hard to resist as you age but he must have some say and I think the Marvel crap made him lazy. Even Gary Oldman – similar in his raw talent – had to succumb to the DC model. It would be nice if at least one of these ground breakers could get right with it and just do good movies again. Martin Scorcese does not denigrate his profession easily. He has no competition; he’s just bummed out about the where movies are at. I love comic books but that genre is TV. Episodes. Makes sense. Remaking classics with 3d pretty pictures and rewriting scripts to fit the celeb of the month is just depressing. Robert Downey Jr please get a grip!
