With greater restrictions for going outdoors, I decided to search the world’s streets (via the internet) for this week’s Street Style subject.
Meet Ece, a brand manager living in Istanbul, Turkey. When she’s not working, you can find her traveling around the globe in perfectly curated outfits ranging from oversized sweaters paired with an all-black outfit to chic silk dresses and layered necklaces. Ece’s style covers a wide range of the fashion spectrum, and when I inquire about her daily inspiration, she tells me, “Honestly, it depends on anything that triggers my creativity, self-confidence, and positivity. Then, what I pick for that day depends on my mood and how I feel about my body that day.”
The two outfits she shares with me speak to that range. One plays with neutral colors, coordinated flawlessly, down to her phone case. “This may sound a little weird,” Ece explains, but I have more than 10 cases. I change them according to my outfit. I see it more than anything during my day, so from my point of view, it makes sense.”
The oversized leather button-up (Zara, $40) over her sleek black blouse (Zara, $16) creates a square silhouette, giving her outfit a structured feel. Small accessories (Hoop earrings, Mango, $20; rings, local Istanbul shop, $100; Tiffany&Co necklace, $130) complete the ensemble with a touch of femininity.
Her second outfit is anything but neutral. Bright, sleek, and playful, the red chiffon dress is from one of Turkey’s biggest online retailers, Trendyol.com ($20). Strappy Tory Burch sandals (Beymen, local retail store in Istanbul, $150,) and a colorful fan Ece picked up while traveling through Italy (Positano, Italy, 30 euros) complete the outfit. In the photo she shares, Ece looks like she’s enjoying herself while strolling in Italy’s Amalfi coast.
“I really like to bring clothes that fit my travel locations. When I traveled to Marrakesh, [Morocco,] I actually brought all the hippie-chic, bohemian outfits that I don’t normally wear a lot during summer in Turkey. When I traveled to Africa, I brought all of my light clothes that have African figures, easily convertible pieces, head wraps, and loose dresses with me. I like to become a chameleon trendsetter when I’m a traveler.”
Ece’s go-to shops for new clothes are mostly online: Asos, Trendyol, Zara, and H&M. Among her inspirations, she lists Princess Diana and Cher. “They’re the ones I think of when I feel nostalgia. They take me back to the good old times.”
