As I Lay Dying dropped from Resurrection Fest

And other music news from Pathology, Schizophonics, Chon, Deaf Club, and the Swedish Models

As I Lay Dying won’t be experiencing the Resurrection this year.
As I Lay Dying won’t be experiencing the Resurrection this year.

Spanish organizers of the 2019 Resurrection Fest have dropped the reunited As I Lay Dying due to negative backlash over singer Tim Lambesis’ conviction and imprisonment for trying to hire an undercover police officer to kill his wife. Other venues and promoters have reported complaints over booking the band (which once billed itself as a Christian rock act), but that hasn’t kept them from producing new videos for songs like “Redefined,” “My Own Grave,” and their newest, “Shaped By Fire,” the title track of their upcoming album on the Nuclear Blast label.

Death metal band Pathology released a Jeff Forrest-filmed video for “The Beast Within,” from their new album Reborn to Kill, supported by a North American tour with Narcotic Wasteland. Recorded at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland with Zack Ohren (Machine Head, Suffocation) producing and mastering, guests on the album include Black Dahlia Murder singer Trevor Strnad.

The sophomore Schizophonics album People in the Sky, recorded with Dave Gardner (Hot Snakes, Rocket From the Crypt) and Stephen Kaye (JD McPherson), is preceded by a single for “Battle Line.” Due on Halloween via Pig Baby Records, the album will be supported with an appearance at Montreal’s Fuzztival and a tour running through October and November (including October 11 at the Casbah).

Chon will support their self-titled album by launching a U.S. tour with Between the Buried and Me and Intervals, kicking off November 7 in L.A. and wrapping December 15 in Anaheim, with an Observatory North Park date on December 14. Then, a three month world tour taking them across four continents, including stops in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore, London, Munich, and Taipei.

Justin Pearson’s newest band Deaf Club has a new zombie apocalypse video for “Bounced Reality Check,” directed by Dark Details (who created videos for Planet B, Kool Keith), off their upcoming Contemporary Sickness EP. Due October 4 in a digital edition and a specially printed vinyl run, the album was mixed and mastered by Brent Asbury (Retox, Dead Cross, Planet B), with vinyl cover art by Jesse Draxler, who has done artwork for Nine Inch Nails and the New York Times. Another new video, for “Boyfriends of Christ,” features around a minute of jarring black and white found footage.

The Swedish Models album due early September (on vinyl with digital access) was recorded one song at a time over the past year at Earthling Records, with guest players including Brian Reilly, Matt Costa, Mike Kamoo, and Chad Pittman.

The first Locust gig in four years takes place at the Desert Daze Festival (running October 10-13), and the band also plans to debut new costumes and their first new music since 2007.

The new Ready Set Survive video for “Young and Dumb” includes a cameo by local DJ and promoter Tim Pyles.

After opening for Foster the People and several Louis XIV reunions, Ignant Benches’ debut full-length is newly released on Spotify, with a support tour running up the coast and back down through Iowa and Nevada.
