Rocker recall

Hello this is D. T. Black of the Xterminators. I’m calling in regards to a column called Live Five by Jay Allen Sanford. It was in your May 16 issue on the Dinettes. In the writing, it’s alleged that Lisa Aston played with the Xterminators. As the vocalist leader of the Xterminators, [I can say] she never played with the Xterminators, never. However, I did form two different bands with Lisa Aston, D.T. and the Black & Deckers and the other name I cannot remember at this time. So please make that correction.

Bring back Duncan

I was very dismayed by Scott Marks movie review in the May 23 issue (Isaac Cherem’s Leona: Circumscribed hearts). It’s a rambling review and it made no sense. It was very unprofessional, and very confusing to read that review. It’s almost as bad as your former movie reviewer Duncan Shepard, who is no longer there. I suggest you replace Mr. Scott Marks with these strange reviews of his. Couldn’t make head nor tail out of that review.

Phobic shame

Islamophobia is very real, racist and hateful, just read the article by Eric Bartl (“San Diego Unified dumps anti-Islamophobia initiative,” City Lights, May 22). Shameful.

Facts and an opinion

Kudos to the Reader for unapologetically publishing honest fact and sincere opinion in its editorial pages. As a matter of course the Reader published a Letter to the Editor written by concerned IB resident Dane Crosby (“Tidal Tidings”, Letters, April 24). Possibly because this letter was critical of sitting IB mayor Serge Dedina by highlighting the numerous potential conflicts of interest of this elected official, the weekly Coronado/IB Eagle Times refused to do the same. After advising that it had consulted with “legal”, the Eagle Times told Mr. Crosby that the only way such a piece would appear in its pages is as a paid advertisement at a cost of $675.00! Calling the bluff, Mr. Crosby promptly produced $675 of his own money so that the Eagle Times would agree to print substantially the same letter that the Reader printed gratis. Well done, San Diego Reader.

A terminal by any other name

It’s “Grand Station Terminal” (“The Sun Is Also A Star,” Movie Review, May 23). It is not and never has been “Grand Station Station”. I’m a Connecticut native, and we East Coast natives take our history seriously. Thanks for your fine work. Even with an occasional error.
