A wall to take care of Tijuana sewage

America has always been great

Siegmann says the happy honkers far outnumber the middle finger salutes.

Detouring Mexican Sewage

How about we build a wall/island right on the Tijuana River, that goes 35 miles out to sea and build a military base there (“The sewage that Imperial Beach wants to put near San Ysidro,” Neighborhood News, April 23). This way, every time it rains, rather than sniveling about Mexican sewage all the time, the problem would be effectively ended. This make much more sense and the Chinese did this in the South China Sea and it seemed to have worked out quite nice for them. Just a thought!

Mayor Serge Dedina (in black polo shirt) and councilwoman Paloma Aguirre have declared border sewage an environmental justice issue but failed to include San Ysidro in the Surfrider plan.

Conspiracy theories

It is a shame that the members of the local GOP clubs feel so threatened by honest activism that they are moved to promote untrue rumors about opposition candidates (“Trump supporters expose themselves in San Diego County,” Neighborhood News, August 6). Accusations of a Communist takeover of the Democratic party would be laughable if we were not facing actual Russian interference with our electoral process, which this president and Senate seem totally unwilling to acknowledge and deal with. Both Lenson and Seigman seem to be accusing Democrats of illegal ballot harvesting, taking advantage of lonely elderly residents of mobile home parks. I guess the difference between them and my Democratic friends is that we actually want every eligible voter to be able to cast their vote. We do reach out to those who are blind or infirm to make sure they have someone to help them mark their ballots and get that ballot mailed into the Registrar. We help everyone, regardless of party, to mark their ballot as they wish. Can Lenson or Seigman say the same. It was noted in another a local news article that over 7000 new Hispanic voters were registered in Escondido for the 2018 elections. Democrats celebrate the expansion of the voter pool. And lest Ms. Seigman forget, it was a year of weekly demonstrations by Democrats at Darrell Issa’s Vista office that encouraged him to retire. Orange County now has a majority Democratic voter registration and San Diego County is well on its way. That said, I actually do believe a strong two party system is valuable. But you can’t hold onto the past. America has always been great; we don’t have to make it great again.
