Dog lunges at librarian

Spending in the name of the environment; Dem racking up cash

Small, white, and poodle looking “Your privileges to use any San Diego public library location are suspended,” says a December 11, 2017 notice addressed to one “unknown female’s dog.” Checked violations include “patron is behaving in a manner which reasonably can be expected to disturb other patrons.” Warns the notice, “If you are observed on the grounds of any San Diego Public Library, the police will be called, and you will be arrested.”

As with most shaggy dog stories, there is a backstory. “At about 1:15 PM, I heard loud barking and a person speaking loudly on the phone at a study carrel,” per an attestation by librarian Bob Surratt. “When I approached the patron with the dog, the dog growled and lunged at me. I informed the patron that she would need to take the dog outside. She protested saying she had PTSD and that was what the dog was trained to do,” continued the complainant, describing the offender as “small, white, and poodle looking.”

A second incident last month resulted in the calling of library security to evict offender and owner, but there was no trip to the pound, per documents posted online by the city in response to a public records request.

Waste money The county Board of Supervisors is looking to spend some promotional cash in the name of the environment, per a March 13 call for proposals. “The County of San Diego, Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Planning & Recycling Section, is seeking a media services consultant for developing a media strategy, public education and outreach campaign, and advertising/media plan to increase awareness about recycling and waste reduction among residents and businesses in the unincorporated areas of the county.” No cost is estimated.

San Diego county Democrats came up with $4500 on March 14 for the campaign of Matt Strawbone, running against GOP incumbent Ernie Dronenberg for county recorder, clerk, and assessor.
