San Diego County’s unemployment rate was 2.9 percent in May, the same as the revised number in April. California’s rate was 3.7 percent and the nation’s 3.6 percent during the period.
Local leisure and hospitality jobs led the way with a gain of 2100 jobs in May. Most sectors gained in the month. Year over year, the county gained 32,500 jobs.
Some larger cities in the county had higher rates: National City 4 percent, Imperial Beach 3.7 percent, and Chula Vista 3.1 percent. Bostonia, near El Cajon, had the highest rate at 5.7 percent..
