The article (“Tijuana desensitized to violence”, Neighborhood News, December 4) stated there were more than 2176 murders in Tijuana. From when to when? I assume from the start of the year until the present.
Matthew Suárez responds:
Your assumption is almost correct. The death toll was from the start of the year to mid-November. The death toll has surpassed 2,300 already. 2018 has become Tijuana’s deadliest year and it doesn’t seem to stop or slow down. Adding 1,647 from last year, there have been almost 4,000 homicides under the current mayor, Juan Manuel “el Patas” Gastelum, who still has one more year in office.
