Sept 21

Harbor Patrol responded to a South Bay Marina for a female swimming around the boats and untying them. HP located the female and retrieved her from the water finding that she was under the influence of narcotics. Prior to charging her with the crime, Harbor Patrol called for paramedics to evaluate her for possible hypothermia.

Sept 19

Harbor Patrol towed a vessel from the Harbor Police guest slips due to it staying several hours past check-out time and the new guests were waiting. The owner of the towed vessel was aware of the rules and regulations and had been warned several times prior to this incident.

Sept 17

Harbor Patrol was patrolling in the area of Shelter Island when they attempted to stop a vessel for operating without any navigational lights. After a short pursuit, the vessel struck a dock on the island and six subjects ran from the vessel. Several patrol units responded and captured the subjects hiding in a boat yard. The subjects were then found to be illegal immigrants. The Border Patrol responded and took the subjects in for processing. The vessel was impounded for evidence.

Sept 16

Harbor Patrol investigated a jet ski accident that occurred in South Bay near the Chula Vista Channel. It was found that the operator of the ski fell off during some erratic turns. The operator stated he had pain in his shoulder and would receive medical attention later. HP assisted him and the ski back to the dock.

Sept 15

Harbor Patrol impounded a small sailboat that was anchored within the Shelter Island mooring balls. The vessel was believed to be abandoned there for several days. Harbor Patrol has the owner’s information and are in the process of investigating.

Sept 13

Harbor Patrol impounded a vessel that was anchored in the A-1 La Playa Anchorage without a permit. The owner of the vessel was warned the day prior.

Sept 12

Harbor Patrol investigated a burglary that occurred sometime in the past month onboard a vessel at a north bay yacht club. During the investigation, Harbor Patrol located a property jail receipt (with a name on it) and other evidence inside the boat belonging to an unknown subject. It was soon found the subject was already incarcerated for another crime. Upon finishing the investigation, Harbor Patrol detectives added this additional crime to his sentence.

Harbor Patrol investigated a minor vessel collision that occurred at the Harbor Police guest slips. A boat operator was docking his vessel and lost control in the wind which pushed his vessel into another.

Harbor Patrol responded to the Shelter Island Marina for a vessel taking on water. Just prior to their response, the vessel sunk in shallow water. Due to the floating debris and small fuel sheen, Harbor Patrol notified its regional environmental partners for the cleanup.

Harbor Patrol impounded a vessel that was left unattended on the customs dock. The owner was warned earlier in the day not leave his vessel on the dock.

Sept 10

Harbor Patrol investigated a small fuel spill from a vessel that had just left the customs inspection dock.

Harbor Patrol assisted a boater that ran out of gas and was dragging its anchor drifting into the main shipping channel. HP towed the vessel back to the dock on Coronado Island.

Sept 9

Harbor Patrol investigated a possible vessel collision in the A-1 Anchorage. Harbor Patrol found there was no vessel collision, but arrested one of the subjects due to an outstanding warrant.

Sept 8

Harbor Patrol responded to the area of South Marina Park to investigate a possible vessel accident. It was found that a subject riding a jet ski hit a large wake ejecting himself and the passenger. The operator sustained a possible dislocated shoulder.
