Letters on pot ads, Encanto post office, and Don Bauder fall-out

Skip the pot ads

Every week you print a letter from someone complaining about the pot ads. I think some people have too much time on their hands. We get an excellent paper, free of charge, and we all know it is paid for by the advertisers. You make it very easy for them to skip these ads. Just stop reading when you get to the pages with green margins. It has also occurred to me that people who need medical pot might appreciate having this information.

Pensions suck up maintenance money

The reason why many post offices fail audits (“Encanto post office flunks audit”), USPS is bankrupt because of generous benefits and pensions to millions of employees & retirees.

Post offices get no money for maintenance. USPS custodains only get 19 hours per week to maintain facilities.

I know this for sure. I am an USPS career custodian.

Seau gave his life for this

I found myself surprised to disagree with Mr Bauder for the first time (“Rip down Qualcomm and build new stadium?”). His argument that SDSU should use the Q for a football stadium, and possibly a later NFL team is in error. Junior Seau gave his life to show us that football as we know it should be abolished.

The NFL fan base is vanishing. Smart parents will not let their kids play football. Furthermore, the hysteria around the racist Aztec mascot would only grow and grow. And with the changes at SDSU over the last 15 years or so, it is clear that the project has been to sell seats, set up a campus of for-profit stores, and grab as much money from alumni as possible, while falsely claiming to be a research university. It’s not.

UCSD is. The SDSU plan would only redouble this scheme. While I would prefer a simple park, I’d settle for Soccer City taking over the Q, creating some dorms for SDSU, and leaving the rest a park for all to use — not just those who can afford tickets to irrelevant pro games.
