Erin Donnette, legislative director for GOP state assemblyman Brian Maienschein, copped two free tickets to an April 9 Sacramento Kings vs. Houston Rockets basketball game worth $401.66, thanks to telecommunications giant AT&T, according to the utility’s July 28 lobbying disclosure filing.
Frequently used by lobbyists, the luxury corporate boxes at Golden 1 Center — the state capital’s posh new downtown arena subsidized by local taxpayers to the tune of $255 million — have drawn the ire of critics. “Hundreds of tickets” to the city council’s private suite, provided as part of the subsidy deal, “have been given to city officials and their friends,” according to the Sacramento Bee. The annual salary of a ticket administrator hired by city hall to keep track of the arena freebies is $86,000.
