The San Diego County Public Libraries have a vibrant concert schedule which gets lost unless you go to your local library on a regular basis to use the internet. The libraries have two concerts coming up which should be particularly excellent.
The first is at the Encinitas Public Library on Wednesday, September 6, at 12:00 p.m. Local-ish mezzo-soprano Alexandra Rodrick is performing a recital featuring songs by Hector Berlioz, Franz Schubert, Richard Strauss, and Kurt Weill.
Rodrick has been in several productions with San Diego Opera going back to her days as an undergraduate at Point Loma Nazarene College. Since then she has earned a graduate degree from the Boston University Opera Institute and has traveled as far as Japan in her fledgling opera career.
She will be accompanied by Ines Irawati. Irawati is a member of the Aviara Trio and is a vocal coach at PLNU.
The second concert is at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Public Library on Sunday, September 10, at 2:30 p.m.. This concert is a piano recital by Bryan Verhoye and features works by Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Claude Debussy, and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Verhoye has been something of the pianist about town in San Diego. Over nearly three decades he has performed almost everywhere including with the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Master Chorale, and at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion concert series. Verhoye has traveled up the coast to Carmel and performed a critically acclaimed concert for NPR’s Performance Today.
Mr. Verhoye studied at The University of Southern California and the Peabody Conservatory.
