The lawyer representing San Diego city councilman Chris Cate in matters related to state attorney general Xavier Becerra’s investigation of Cate’s leak of a confidential memo to SoccerCity lobbyists has been doing a little city hall influence-peddling of his own.
Felix Tinkov, a partner in Lounsbery Ferguson Altona & Peak, contacted Cate’s fellow councilman Chris Ward and city housing officials regarding a development by Dan Floit at Fifth and Upas, according to the law firm’s November 1 lobbying disclosure report for this year’s third quarter. Apartment baron Floit paid the firm $7000 for its work. Tinkov also lobbied mayoral staffers and councilmen Cate, Mark Kersey, Scott Sherman, and David Alvarez, along with public utility chief Halla Razak regarding approval of lease changes for the Sky Dive San Diego site on behalf of Tactical Air Ops, LLC. Tinkov, who can be paid for his services to Cate from the councilman’s reelection fund, per an October 20 advice letter from the state’s Fair Political Practices Committee, contributed $250 to the Cate cause on September 18, the filing says.
Republican state assemblyman Brian Maienschein went out for a gratis $217 dinner with Ellie Garner this summer. The August 17 meal was furnished by the Barona Resort and Casino Center, according to the tribe’s October 1 disclosure filing. Other gifts distributed to legislators by Barona included a free massage worth $95 and a $50 round of golf for Assembly Democrat Adam Gray on July 1.
